Ooh! Ooh! Pick me! Pick me! Posted Wednesday, January 30, 2002, 5:45PM by TylerL
"Hey, everyone! Do you know what time it is?
It's Q&A time!

I've been always had strong following for Toonami and i like your website. I wanted ask you this.† From all the info thats been coming out about Adult Swim getting all these anime shows in its Saturday Night Run show.
I strongly feel that Toonami is going down hill now.
Why? All flesh blood (new anime) is being pumped into this block and not into Toonami. How heck is it suppose to survive if it gets second hand cartoons and none of them new. Dragonball Z is not beginning and ending of all things. It maybe for Toonami if they keep showing all these re-runs.
Zoids was refreshing addition to it, Even thou its inside and out of the block.† I like the fact less (censored) material is being cut from these new shows. However, not everyone going want to stay up all night or have to tape this once or twice week from 11pm to 3am. Its not feasible and i don't think it will be positive thing for Toonami being slowly cut off from what made it great. Fresh new and old anime that no one on Cable/Broadcast television aires.
I think the neglect will get bad. I don't want to see this thing regulated to Warner Brothers kiddy block on their broadcast franchises.
Oh well, once voice in the crowd. Is there way to contact CN and ask them if their going to be downgrading Toonami or when heck their going bother to put new shows (Anime not WB stuff) on the block?

Since the announcement of the Adult Swim Action block and all of the upcoming Toonami shows airing there instead of Toonami Prime, many people are wondering what Williams Street has up its sleeves in terms of new show acquisitions.
Don't take their silence as meaning that there's nothing down the pipe. The guys at Toonami have learned their lesson about discussing new shows.
During an interview a few years ago, Sean Akins (the ""main man"" at Toonami) mentioned interest in Escaflowne...and FoxKids snatched up the rights quickly before Time Warner could get them.
...later, Sean mentioned interest in Slayers...which Fox also snatched up. (You won't EVER see Slayers on FoxKids, BTW.)
The major networks know that Toonami is the unstoppable juggernaut of afternoon TV for ages 6-11 (as well as other choice demographics). FoxKids' strategy was to buy the rights to shows just to keep Toonami from getting them. Whether or not FoxKids aired the shows didn't matter. Just long as Toonami didn't benefit from the ratings, FoxKids thought they won.
Until the guys at Toonami and AOL/TW sign a rights contract, you won't hear them talk about new shows that could very well be taken away from them.
It's in their best interest to stay quiet.
Silence is a good sign.

Update by Tyler half an hour later: Just added the Burger King/DBZ Big Kids Meal Toy Promo.
...I'm not going to go out of my way for these this time around.

The time has come to stand again and fight. Posted Sunday, January 27, 2002, 2:51AM by TylerL
"I've replaced the DBZ ""Struggle"" promo MP3 in the DBZ section with a longer and much better quality copy!
It turns out the promo's song was written by Blue Tube Productions. They do a lot of promo music and a few video spots for Cartoon Network. Check out their site for more stuff.

Fool. Never click on any of them, it only makes things worse." Posted Wednesday, January 23, 2002, 10:24PM by Zogg
"As reported by, well, everyone known to man, (Romy was first in the report script) the 2 new Batman vs Superman promos are in the Toonami section. One is for Batman, and I'm sure you guess who the other is for. They're not bad, be sure to check it out. (Tom does the voice, does anyone else miss the non-Tom announcer?) Have fun.

"Here's an interesting article about Toonami's effect on Anime.
Most of the writer's points are well-grounded, especially the one about ""fans whose assume authoritative knowledge [of Anime] based on disproportionately limited experience"". (Just because you know Goku's power level at every stage of Dragon Ball doesn't mean you're an expert on Anime.)
What I disagree with is the author's complaint that CN exclusively airs ""shonen"" (boy-oriented) anime. Sailor Moon and Tenchi Muyo! (and even Cardcaptors) are shows with a VERY large female fanbase. Ignoring their impact is a little short-sighted in my opinion.

"I've updated the Fan Creations section with a video from Alex Bornstein entitled ""I'm Free."" It's a well put together piece featuring Creed's My Sacrifice combined with footage from various Gundams. Download and enjoy.

"I urge all of you to read this open letter by Matt Wilson to Williams Street/Cartoon Network.
He brings up a lot of good points about the new Adult Swim block and its targeted demographics.
Addendum by Zogg: I figure I'll add my 2 cents to this as well. While I think Matt brings up some valid points regarding the nature of the shows that should be on Adult Swim, I also think the idea of going back and re-editing is ludicrous. The money spent on re-editing will have to come from somewhere (ie, the AS budget) and that money could be spent on something else instead. I'd much rather see William's Street leave the shows as is right now (current edit) and use that money to acquire more programming, increase the cohesiveness of the AS block, or do additional marketing. Sure, it would be great to have Outlaw Star, Pilot Candidate, and Tenchi come to TV in a less edited form, but that form comes with a price tag that begs the question: Is it really worth it?

"According to this news post by Vincent Benenati of ToonZone, There will be a new action block late nights on Cartoon Network starting Feb. 23 from 9pm - 5am (think of the original Midnight Run, but with three extra hours)!
Some of the show highlights are Samurai Jack, Justice League, Yu Yu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop, Pilot Candidate, Gundam 0083, Jonny Quest, Space Ghost/Dinoboy, Herculoids, and Birdman/Galaxy Trio.
...this is HUGE.
The old school meets the new school meets the NEW new school.
What's different about this block is that it's NOT a Toonami block. It's part of Adult Swim.
Regardless, my eyes will be glued to my TV for 8 hours straight come late February, as should yours.
Update from Tyler 30 minutes later: I added the Yu Yu Hakusho opening to the Almost Toonami section and the Batman vs. Superman Promo to the Toonami section.
Happy downloading!
Update from Tyler 15 minutes later: I added the Batman vs. Superman Contest promo to the Toonami section. Yay.
(If you haven't downloaded Zogg's music video preview, do so now. Get down n' boogie.)
Update from Tyler the next morning:I fixed the story with the Adult Swim confirmation from Matt Wilson.
Hmm...Adult Swim: Digital Arsenal? Toonami Swim, Adult Toonami? Bah. This is so confusing...

If you get one, I get one, too." Posted Sunday, January 13, 2002, 10:13PM by Zogg
"In the on going trend of shameless self promotion (and in an attempt to get myself working on this again) I've released a horridly put together, 11 second preview of my 1 trick pony attempt at slapping together silly music, poorly timed clips, and 1 video trick over and over and over again. That's right, I'm doing a Disco Tom music video! (Don't expect much from the final project, the first full minute of video has had about 3 hours of work put into it over a period of 4 months [I'm lazy] and the video isn't designed to be artistic or even good. If you want something of quality, try Kryptonite over in the Features.) Anyway, here's a teaser that doesn't give much away about my ultra secret plan. Bwahaha.

"The premiere of my new music video is (hopefully) TODAY at Ohayocon!
Look for ""Evangelion - Rabblerouser"" by Adam Marcus and Tyler Loch.
The download version (for all of you not going to Ohayocon) will be online sometime between soon and later.
Check the official video site at http://rabblerouser.cjb.net often for the download version when we release it!

I added the original Transformers opening to the Almost Toonami section.

"Thanks to a tip from Sphroth 3 weeks ago (another uhhh) I taped an episode of Card Captors from the WB and snagged a copy of the new, dubbed intro. You can now find it in the CCS section.
I also made that Newest Downloads bar on the main downloads page do what it is supposed to. Stupid timestamps and my lack of forsight. Problem now solved.

Going hot! Posted Monday, January 7, 2002, 9:59PM by Zogg
"AdminCenter 2.0 is now operational! Tyler and I will spend some time debugging and torturing it, but major problems are not currently forseen. Of the new features (there's lots) the only one you'll notice is the ""InfoLink"" thingy above. What is InfoLink you ask? Well, InfoLink is the place where Tyler, I, or [we're not sure yet] can post up little one-line tidbits of Toonami news and info to be distributed to the site's visitors. Hopefully this will prove to be a useful way of dispersing Toonami info and news so everyone can stay up to date on the latest and greatest in Toonami goodness! Enjoy!
Update from Zogg: I've also done the donation tabulations for the month (available here) and found that we ended December with a debt of only $67.46. However, due to a $70 donation that came in during the interim between the end of last month and my bookkeeping, we're actually starting this month over the top! That's right, the server bill has been paid for January. Big thanks to everyone out there who has donated!
Update from Tyler: ::rolls around in the money:: I want more! MORE!
Update from Zogg: And I thought MY water was toxic...

And now for something off topic Posted Friday, January 4, 2002, 8:09PM by Zogg
"Matt Dempsey just sent me a very interesting link. It appears Escaflowne will be getting a theatrical release in various parts of the country, and Matt sent in the link to the theatrical trailer. If only Escaflowne had some consistent air time, maybe the release wouldn't be so limited...
(Yes, I know this isn't all that Toonami related, but I thought it was cool anyway.)
Enjoy the trailer.

Speaking of baldingly old... Posted Friday, January 4, 2002, 3:54PM by Zogg
"Per Tyler's request 3 weeks ago (uhhhh) I've finally gotten around to adding the Tom1 DBZ Intro from 2000. You can find it over in the DBZ section right beneath the first Tom1 intro. On another note, I'm slowly but surely coding version 2.0 of our Administration Center. (Now with security!) If all goes well (which it seems to be) things should be up and running with it in the next few weeks, at which point Tyler and I may have some interesting ideas regarding how to convert the rest of those old files to the new database. Those files have been there far too long, and it's high time we get that cleaned up instead of ignoring them like we do now. (Secret note: Tyler and I won't be the ones entering all those files. Bwahaha)

The old feeling returns. Posted Thursday, January 3, 2002, 12:09AM by TylerL
"Two of the best Toonami promos in months (if not years) started airing late last week.
Both DBZ, they have a certain feeling about them that reminds me a lot of the stuff Toonami did in the pre-Gundam Wing years.
The best of the new ones, in my opinion, is the minute-long promo. Instead of the fast, random clips of late, it's a slower-paced promo that's great to watch over and over again.
They're now in the DBZ seciton where they belong.
Kudos, Williams Street and Toonami staff. I've been waiting for promos like those for a long time ^_^
Thanks to Skitz for the heads-up abuse.
Update from Zogg 20 minutes later: As have I. All we need now is some promos similar to the Tenchi/GW era and I'll be ecstatic. On another note, I just update the Admin Center that Tyler and I use to version 1.6. That doesn't really effect you, but it eliminated some personal pet-peeves of ours. I really need to sit down and cleanup/add to/contemplate for v2 of Admin Center.

Technical Difficulties are always interesting. Posted Wednesday, January 2, 2002, 12:35PM by TylerL
"Some of you might've noticed a promo title card that accidentally made its way on air during New Years Eve-il.
These are used as a way to organize all the promos that get sent off to the proper department to get aired.
They're interesting reading for those of us on the outside and give us a look at how Toonami creates all the promos.
Well, I wasn't able to tape it since my VCR was rewinding at the time. Zogg saved the day capture card-less with a very scary screen capture technique (pointing a digital camera at a TV isn't how to make screencaps).
But, nevertheless, here it is.

Don't you fret and don't you pout, it's time for the pork and sauerkraut!" Posted Tuesday, January 1, 2002, 12:43AM by TylerL
Happy new year!
I added the NYE Intro as well as the NYE Winner promo to the Toonami section.

...and if you don't find someone to kiss...
