Last August, Production I.G. announced that they'd acquired the rights to FLCL from Studio Gainax and would be producing a new series based on the property.

Fast forward to today. Toonami announced on their Facebook page that they'll be co-producing it! It will be a continuation of the old series, 12 episodes split up into two new seasons.

EDIT: A Turner press release reveals the plot:

In the new season of FLCL, many years have passed since Naota and Haruhara Haruko shared their adventure together. Meanwhile, the war between the two entities known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy. Enter Hidomi, a young teenaged girl who believes there is nothing amazing to expect from her average life, until one day when a new teacher named Haruko arrives at her school. Soon enough, Medical Mechanica is attacking her town and Hidomi discovers a secret within her that could save everyone, a secret that only Haruko can unlock.

But why did Haruko return to Earth?
What happened to her Rickenbacker 4001 she left with Naota?
And where did the human-type robot 'Canti' go?

All of these questions and more will be answered in the new season of the series, which is set to premiere in late 2017/early 2018 on Adult Swim.

UPDATE #2: Big update on DeMarco's Twitter. The original voice cast returns. The Pillows are back for the soundtrack. The original director and Gainax's co-founder are on board.

Breaking tradition. Posted Sunday, March 20, 2016, 12:33AM by Daikun
It's been a while, hasn't it? Yeah, there's been a dry spell of news. There's a couple of tidbits, though--one good, one not so much.

Let's start with the bad news: Jason DeMarco confirmed on his Ask.fm account that Toonami will not be at MomoCon this year. After hosting three years of announcements there, it's pretty unfortunate. They'll be attending other cons this year, though. Keep your eyes glued to Jason's social networks for any announcements.

Now on a much brighter note, the new season of Samurai Jack will be previewed at Annecy on June 13-17. That should hopefully mean we can expect a Summer premiere in the States. Samurai Champloo is expected to end (assuming there are no marathons) on June 25; it seems like a close-enough gap for a premiere date.
