This will bring great things.
Very great things.

"A Gamecube, a free game, and a demo disc for $99?

A Playstation 2 for $150?

An XBox, Sega GT, and Jet Set Radio Future for $150?

Well, they're not confirmed, but very likely. E3 will be the test to see if actually happens. You could play Dragonball Z: Budokai or the Transformers game on these cheap systems...

Pepito's Army Infiltrates MIT! Posted Friday, April 25, 2003, 11:34PM by TylerL
"The wrath of Pepito is felt far and wide.
On Wednesday, the great minds of MIT were no match for the obscenely excessive forces of Pepito's lawn gnome army.
They have taken a Linux cluster as their main base of communications and are currently raiding dorms for beer, pizza and anime.
On the linked page, you can see Pepito's pawns on spooky-gaze watch duty, interfacing with the seized computer equipment, and partaking in some R&R.
http://hacks.mit.edu/Hacks/by_year/2003/gnomes/
GNome Oak Military Ensemble banners have been raised everywhere, and all Gnome Exterminator businesses have been razed.
This is yet another victory in a long, expected line of triumphs of Pepito.
As always, if you want to survive a surely upcoming invasion, be sure to pledge your loyalty to Pepito every day. Save yourself. Tell others.

Animation History to be torn down for... apartments?! This is important people. Posted Friday, April 25, 2003, 4:25AM by Andromaton
"A developer wants to raze the Hanna-Barbera Studios buildings that animation legends William Hanna and Joseph Barbera erected in 1963 at 3400 Cahuenga Blvd. near Universal City, to build shops and apartments. HB preservationists are scrambling to mount a campaign to save what they call is a historic and architecturally significant landmark, while some residents of that neighborhood fear the project would worsen traffic in the Cahuenga Pass.

Click Read more for the rest of the story and please respond with your own opinion. Sourced from AWN

Los Angeles developer William McGregor has two proposals for the four-acre site, according to the LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS. One is for a self-storage facility that could be shoehorned into it without destroying the three former HB studios. The other is for a mix of shops and apartments that calls for demolishing two of the buildings because the developer says they can't be retrofitted. McGregor cites the needs for more housing, that community-serving retail will benefit the neighborhood plus his plan is compatible with the area.

Ken Bernstein, director of preservation issues for the Los Angeles Conservancy, said the site, ""has architectural and cultural significance."" ""It's an excellent example of mid-20th-century modernist architecture. It's where animation really came of age for Hollywood and shaped cultural values throughout the country."" Arthur Froelich was the architect and is known for designing many Los Angeles public structures, including the Hollywood Park racetrack.

The Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission voted against granting cultural-historic monument status to the trio of buildings five years ago. Alan Leib, chairman of the Los Angeles Modern Committee, told AWN that supporters had always meant to re-apply to preserve the birthplace of television animation but had sidelined the matter since the developer had left the buildings alone, except for office rentals in what was the HB warehouse. Leib argues that ""It is one of few animation buildings, outside of Disney, that is still standing in Los Angeles."" He also said it should be a monument to Hanna and Barbera for all that they have given to Los Angeles and the world.

Jordan Reichek, founder of Perky Pickle Studios, is marshalling efforts of former HB employees and enthusiasts to honor the men he said resurrected the animation industry and made it viable for television, ""We owe it to them."" Reichek said he is working with Barbera, who recently celebrated his 92nd birthday, to present his ideas for preserving the studio. (Hanna passed away two years ago.)

Los Angeles City Councilman Tom LaBonge, who represents the area, supports the new development.

The Hollywood Hills West Neighborhood Council is scheduled to discuss the traffic implications of the project with the developer at its meeting tonight, April 23, 2003 at 7:30 pm at Valley View Elementary School at 6921 Woodrow Wilson Drive. HB preservationists and Leib will also be making a presentation at the meeting and at future local government and neighborhood groups.

Hasbro has been but Mattel is matt? WEE! MORE BATMAN! Posted Friday, April 25, 2003, 4:10AM by Andromaton
"Mattel has taken up the slack where Hasbro has left off as the new manufacturer of Batman's Animated Action figures series. The first wave of this new release consists of six sets of two action figures in each pack. Batman accompanies six different characters, both good and evil from his extended DC Animated Universe. The initial four to hit the store shelves this past March are 'Battle scarred' Batman vs. Catwoman in her most recent incarnation of the animated style with sleeker lines and the bluish hue to her face.

Source: Zone of the Tooners
You know you so want to click read more.
Come on, do it. All the cool kids are.
Don't you want to be cool too?

This is probably the most authentic likeness of the cartoon Catwoman ever released commercially as it is Spot-On from the television show which is still in syndication on Cartoon Network. As all the Batman’s are the same molded body type for this line, Mattel has decided take a page from Hasbro's Play-book and re-deco [change up paint schemes] with his costume for these six different appearances. As the title of this set describes, Batman's costume seems to have some nasty scratches visible on his arms, legs and stomach area. I guess he refused to give Catwoman a little 'Bat-sugar'.
Next, we have Batman squaring off against the Joker (sku B4890) in his basic black and grey suit with the yellow encircled bat-emblem on his chest. So far, this is the only Batman figure to have the yellow show up on his uniform. Joker looks as if he has stepped right off of Paul Dini's drawing table as the sound of his cackling laughter will linger in the back of your mind as soon as you see this set.

Set three features a two-tone dark and light blue camouflage clad Batman with his original partner Dick Grayson as Nightwing (sku B5902) as he stands in a much more dramatic pose than it's Hasbro predecessors of straight out arms and legs. Nightwing sports his metallic blue-bird chest emblem which glistening off the moonlight as he is at the ready for any mischief to unfold as he watches over a sleeping Gotham City.

The Silvery sheen of Batman's costume in the Batman & Robin pack (sku B4889) complements his younger partner's metallic red-breasted suit and two toned black and yellow cape. This Dynamic Duo really makes the Hasbro assortments seem pale in comparison as the striking pair exemplifies the show's look and feel.
All the caped figures in this line have synthetic material-like capes. Not the plastic or rubber capes we have grown use to since Hasbro re-invented the animated line in the mid-90's.

When perusing the back packaging of these fine assortments, you will notice Batman and Batgirl as well as Batman and Two-face as two packs. These sets will be included in wave two if Mattel feel confident enough in their initial run on the intro set. Who knows, we may see Alfred and Commissioner Gordon appearing by next years Holiday shopping season. Remember, it took Hasbro almost 20 years to put out a Batgirl figure.

Mattel seems to want to deliver the goods within the first year or so. Hats off to Mattel for a job well done and to continued success in what they do best...

Nothing is ever set in stone... or Gundanium... Posted Monday, April 21, 2003, 3:33PM by KnuxFive
"I figured I would take this chance to remind you all of something.

Schedules are never set in stone. While it was looking like we would get the return of Zoids: Chaotic Century next week, things have changed for a Dragonball Z Season 6 reairing. Cartoon Network's fickle like that. And while Z:CC might still be listed for a later date, that might be due to the fact they have not updated their schedules yet. As I do the schedules, you'd be surprised by how many changes I have to make just for Saturday and Sunday every week.

Naturally, this stuff applies to other misfires, like Silverhawks on Toonami: Midnight Run, the return of the Midnight Run (Which turned out to be SVES), and Mobile Suit Gundam's CN reairing in a THIRD block.

Turner Planning U.S. CNX Network Posted Monday, April 21, 2003, 11:59AM by Andromaton
"They're talking about it. The Turner United Kingdom-based network, CNX may be coming to America. According to a latest report by trade publication Television Week, Turner Entertainment, a subsidiary of AOL Time Warner, is mulling the potential launch of a U.S. version of the network.

Discussions have been ongoing for six months in regards to a U.S. launch, although nothing definite has been announced or agreed upon. Mark Lazarus, the head of the Turner Entertainment group told Television Week that CNX U.S. is ""on the list"" of new opportunities for the company, but ""not imminent.""

Source: Animation Insider

CNX is an adrenaline heavy, action network aimed primarily at males. It includes many programs already available on its United States Turner network Cartoon Network, including the hit animated programming series Justice League, Batman Beyond, X-Men: Evolution, Cowboy Bebop. It is not known whether or not Cartoon Network series or their action-based programming blocks, Toonami and Adult Swim Action would shift to CNX U.S. if it were to launch.

Build 'em, customize... just don't mobilize" Posted Friday, April 18, 2003, 7:52PM by KnuxFive
"Apparently, Zoids: Chaotic Century will NOT be making it's return at the end of April. Dragonball Z seems to be restarting from the Buu saga, Season 6.

No big surprise, why would Toonami replace a ratings bonanza with a ratings bomb? Once again, this is proof that if something is scheduled, it's not definate that it will air.

Sailor Moon Uncut Unedited Season One Release or SMUUSOR as I like to call it. Posted Friday, April 18, 2003, 11:55AM by Andromaton
"ADV Films today announced a July 15, 2003 release date for Sailor Moon: Season One Uncut, a huge DVD collection of the uncensored original source material for the breakout U.S. hit children’s hit Sailor Moon. The MSRP is $149.98.

You want to read more.... the text link commands it..... obey the text link.....

In this English-subtitled, Japanese-language release, ADV Films has returned to the original masters, which include mature content that was excised from the U.S. children’s release, and the original graphic title treatment. The result is a far more sophisticated series, with significantly broadened appeal for mature anime fans. The release (46 episodes, over 1000 minutes total running time) is on eight DVDs in two cases, which are in turn packaged in a handsome, high-quality (“hard”) foil-stamped custom art box.

This is a DVD-only release, including 46 complete episodes on eight DVDs. In Japanese, with English subtitles. DVDs in two four-disc cases, packed in turn in a high-quality (“hard”) foil-stamped custom art box. Includes a printed episode guide and ADV previews.

It's Hamtaro... er... ''Restart before the Kyoto Arc'' Time! Posted Tuesday, April 15, 2003, 4:00PM by KnuxFive
"Kenshin confusion is the big problem of the day.

First, Kenshin airs during Hamtaro's timeslot. Later, Matt Wilson points out that Kenshin will restart before the infamous Kyoto Arc.

And... of course, the infamous Kenshin Beyond promo.

By the power of mail-ins! I have the limited edition Moss Man! Posted Tuesday, April 15, 2003, 3:44PM by KnuxFive
"Moss Man, the ecological Master of the Universe from the Toonami-originated He-Man remake, is now a limited edition figure.

Back in the '80s, the Moss Man figure was really Beast Man recolored and flocked. Now in 2K3... things haven't changed.

Starting... last Friday, go to your local Target, K-Mart, Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, or Kay Bee Toys (I think someone has a sale this week, look in the paper), pick up three figures at the same time, mail in the reciept and 5 dollars to Mattel, and you'll get your own Moss Man figure!

Hm... Triklops, Orko... and Mekanek... now... if they weren't so costly/I wasn't so broke...

Toonami Related DVDs for April 15th Posted Monday, April 14, 2003, 7:49PM by KnuxFive
"DVDs. Those little, wonderfully shiny discs that preserve our favorite shows. The only way to see some series. Toonami's got a bunch of them out there.

This week brings us the beginning... or actually, the middle of Dragonball GT. FUNimation will be releasing the more marketable episodes earlier, with the first saga coming later. This makes economic sense, as kids will think that's all there is (With the recap episode and all), and therefore be hooked with these episodes, only to discover the first Saga later (What, the ""Universal Search Saga""?). Plus, kids (and I alike) don't give a darn about Dan Dan, so... face it. These releases aren't for the ""true"" (I use that term loosely) fans, these are for the... well... people who would buy these episodes. This is also not proof that GT will air out of order on Toonami...

"Dang... I want Soul Calibur II for GCN.

Anyways, Dragonball Z: Legacy of Goku 2 will be released on . Playable on the Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, and Game Boy Player. The first game was known for its... shortness and boring...ness. Hopefully the sequel will fix those problems. This part of the legend begins where the last one left off, the Trunks Saga (No Garlic Jr. Saga...) to the Cell Saga. Don't be surprised to see Legacy of Goku 3 to go from World Tournament to Buu, possibly beyond.

Let's Play a Penalty Game... coulda been Toonami? Posted Thursday, April 10, 2003, 9:54PM by knuxfive
"Huh... this is one of those ""What If?"" stories.

Apparently, FUNimation originally wanted to get Yu-Gi-Oh!. They even registered yu-gi-oh.net, but 4Kids Entertainment acquired it.

Naturally, FUNimation has a great record with Cartoon Network, and the fact that many Toonami shows have originated from Shonen Jump wouldn't hurt.

Read more for a ""What If?"" scenario.

Source: MDawg957 of the Toon Zone Boards, who found the registration

As you may or may not know, Yugi didn't always play Duel Monsters. In the original season, Yugi turned dark to play ""Penalty Games"" with people who... well... p*ssed him off. Seriously, read Shonen Jump, he once lit a guy on fire.

Say FUNimation picked up the series. Airing the marketable series on Toonami nigh-uncut, we'd be watching the adventures of Yugi Mutou, Honda, Anzu, and Jonouchi, instead of Yugi Moto, Tristan, Téa, and Joey.

I've always been somewhat fond of Yu-Gi-Oh...

Don't mess with Texas... they have some Toonami stuff... Posted Thursday, April 10, 2003, 9:42PM by knuxfive
"It's not ""prancing"", Tyler, it's Spring Break. So I'm in the Lone Star state, and I saw some stuff...

- Dragonball Z: Super Battle sucks. Played it in the arcade... got my butt kicked by Future Trunks.

- Seems that Yu Yu Hakusho: Poltergeist Report has been released (Or rereleased, I dunno) on DVD with the tagline, ""You've seen the series on Cartoon Network!"" or something like that.

- I swear, cable universally hates Toonami. They always seem to screw Toonami for me. Either it's overrunning the latest Toonami promo with Bellsouth or Prudential Life Insurance... or possibly the most infuriating thing ever. Final episode of Dragonball Z. I'm watching, and it get's near the end. The narrator kicks in, ""Goku, the young orphan from another planet- EMERGENCY BROADCAST TEST. THIS IS A TEST OF THE EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM. BREEEP BREEEP."" What did the narrator say at the end?

- Just to let y'all know... Book Stan' has a good backlog of ""Cartoon Network Presents..."" comics...

Toonami gets higher ratings. Masses stunned. Posted Wednesday, April 9, 2003, 9:32PM by TylerL

Gundam SEED All Set! Ready... Grow! Posted Thursday, April 3, 2003, 3:54PM by knuxfive
"Ha... you thought this was confirmation on Gundam SEED coming to Toonami... it's not even over in Japan!

Bandai will be releasing a 3D action Mobile Suit Gundam SEED game for the PS2 this summer in Japan.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED is pretty much 40% guaranteed to end up on Toonami one day. Why 40%? Well, it could always be sidetracked to Adult Swim or Saturday Video Entertainment System... This game will most likely make it's way to America later.

Is that He-Man in your pocket or are you just glad to see me? Posted Wednesday, April 2, 2003, 11:33AM by Andromaton
"He-Man is fighting Skeletor... in your back pocket! MVCreations will begin their rollout of CGE projects on July 9th with MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE vol. 1: THE SHARD OF DARKNESS, a 112-page trade paperback printed in CrossGen Entertainment's innovative 8"" x 5"" Traveler format. The debut volume marks the first time that CGE will publish a collected edition in the portable and affordable format for its initial print run.

Click Read More because I said so.

Reprinting the four-issue miniseries originally published by Image Comics, THE SHARD OF DARKNESS opens as strange events trouble the mighty Masters of the Universe. Determined to unearth the cause of the calamity, the heroic He-Man sets forth on a dangerous quest to end the crisis--but the sinister Skeletor and his merciless minions have other ideas! Writer Val Staples, penciler Emiliano Santalucia, and inker Marco Failla return readers to a world of science and sorcery, as the '80s phenomenon is reborn for a new era!

"We had seen and heard a lot of positive feedback about the Traveler-sized collections from CGE," stated MVCreations President Val Staples. "In a day and age where trades are becoming more and more popular, the Travelers are priced to move, and a brilliant way to give readers a lot of bang for their buck."

"While the Travelers format may be small in size, embracing it as a go-to format is a huge move," stated CrossGen Entertainment Director of Marketing & Communications Bill Rosemann. "Some of the first comics that I ever read as a child were paperback-sized reprints of superhero titles--and my friends and I loved the fact that we could stick them in our book bags. For years readers wondered why publishers didn't bring back this handy option. That's why it's so cool to see CrossGen resurrect and revamp the format with superior printing and paper. And thumbs-up to MVCreations for delivering all-ages adventure in a package that young readers crave!"

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE vol. 1: THE SHARD OF DARKNESS will be solicited in the CrossGen Entertainment section of the April issue of Diamond Comics Distributors Previews catalog.

In Every Fiber of His Being... He Is Truly The Dark Knight? Posted Tuesday, April 1, 2003, 4:54PM by knuxfive
"So, I'm waking up today to Max Steel and Transformers Armada (On that ""It could be Toonami: Rising Sun, but it's just a nameless block"" block).

Kenshin Beyond? WTF is this? I grabbed my tape recorder (luckily, I had a lecture today) and recorded the audio.

I'm gonna guess this is Williams Street's prank on us... maybe that's why they couldn't make Endgame into a Total Immersion Event, they had to commission (what looked like) WB Animation to make a commercial for a fake series. Seriously, if you missed it, it was brand new animation. Kenshin goes from Manslayer to Dark Knight...

Source/Link: Tyler's being gracious enough for me to have the audio file here

"Thundercats HO! An animated series is under development but it will not be a remake of the original series. It seems to be a continuation of the story some 20 years after the first ended. Lion-O is now King and Cheetarah his queen. They have had a son who is now about 15-16 years old; his name is Ocelothro (oddly enough he's an ocelot). He is being rtained to be the leader of the thundercats by your good ol' friends Wily Cat and Wily Kit, who while the hardened by the years never really lost their fun loving spirit. A whole new band of adventurers will join Ocelothro when a brand new evil force rears its ugly head.
