"According to a posting on the official Alex Toth Web site, the legendary artist/designer has passed away. He was 78.

Born on June 25th, 1928in New York City, Toth is known for his work as a designer and creatorof a number of comics and animated properties. Probably his best knowncreations to the public at large were for Hanna Barbera, where in the'60s and '70s he designed much loved creations like Space Ghost, Josieand the P----cats, The Herculoids and the Super Friends. His designinfluence is still felt today as many of those early cartoons have beenreappropriated for new shows on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, such asthe popular "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" and "Sea Lab 2021."

Toth's oldest son Ericsaid Saturday evening his father passed away early Saturday morningwhile sitting at his drawing table. No further details were available,but Eric did note that an appropriate memorial panel may be planned atthis summer's Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Eric Toth said, "…allof your cards and letters of the recent past were very much appreciatedby my father. Only in these last years did he begin to understand andaccept the fact that his work had touched so many people's lives."

Lucasfilm Ltd. on Thursday announced that Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series has been released on Apple’s iTunes Music Store. Volume 1 has been released today; Volume 2 will be released in June.

Each chapter, or episode, costs $1.99 individually; the entire first volume (20 episodes) can be purchased for $10.99. These downloaded episodes can be played back only on either a Windows or Macintosh computer running iTunes or on a video iPod.

Star Wars: Clone Wars is an original animated series that follows the adventures of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu and the Jedi Knights as they fight against the forces of the Dark Side. The series received Emmy Awards when it first debuted on television (with reruns and a marathon on Toonami) in 2004 and 2005.
