Nonstop Frentic Animated Video File Action Posted Sunday, June 30, 2002, 11:58PM by TylerL
"There isn't a 12 minute block of time on Cartoon Network where you can go without seeing at least one Powerpuff Girls movie promo.
Instead of just a few small commercials, Cartoon Network and Warner Brothers decided to go all out and make DOZENS of promos for the movie that have been airing on many TV stations.

...and I've collected 32 of these promos!

So, since TDA has some bandwidth to burn this month, all 32 video clips are available to download until the end of the day on July 3rd - the premiere of the Powerpuff Girls movie.

They're all in the Features section.
Go nuts.

\temp is done really stupidly in the first place. Posted Sunday, June 30, 2002, 1:28AM by TylerL
"The biggest problem people have with downloading is just a simple setting.
If you're using Windows 95-XP and Internet Explorer 4-6 (about 85% of you), click on ""Save this file to disk"", NOT ""Open this file from its current location"".

For the visual learners out there, here, have a picture:

For some reason, videos don't seem to to open when downloaded to the temp directory.
...even better for us, and what's best for us keeps us alive which is best for you.

There will definitely be a real content update tomorrow. I promise.
At least 30 files. Is that good enough?
Go see the Powerpuff Girls movie.

"I have reason to believe that a lot of e-mail sent to me has disappeared.
If you've e-mailed me in the last week or so and have not gotten a reply, please e-mail me again.

The cause of, and the solution to, all of lifes problems." Posted Thursday, June 27, 2002, 12:07AM by TylerL
"I've received a few e-mails from people saying they've having trouble with the downloads.
If anyone's having problems, PLEASE tell me what OS you're using (Windows 98, ME, Mac OS 9, etc) and what browser you're using (IE 5, 5.5, 6, Netscape 7, Mozilla 1.1a, Konqueror, Opera, OmniWeb, etc) and what file (if just one) you're having trouble with.

An e-mail saying ""yr sit is broken plz fix it"" doesn't help anybody.

Quick, Lazy Fix: Try another browser, or try updating IE to the latest version. Chances are there's a preference that got screwed up somewhere along the line for some reason.

The new force-download system has been tested by myself on stock installations of IE 5.5 on both Windows 2000 and 98, IE 5.1 in Mac OS 9, IE 5.2 in Mac OS X, and Zogg's tested it on whatever browser he's currently using.

G-Gundam Premiere date - August 5th Posted Tuesday, June 25, 2002, 4:54PM by TylerL
"ToonZone has reported that G-Gundam will premiere on August 5th at 5:30pm.
Classic Zoids is still set for July 29th.
Transformers: Armada and He-Man are still scheduled for an mid-late August premiere.

Remember kiddies...brute force fixes everything! Posted Monday, June 24, 2002, 10:40PM by TylerL
"The Old Toonami files were unavailable for two days thanks to a funky way we originally set the database up.
I spent a good half hour trying to think logically so I could debug Zogg's PHP code, but ended up bashing my keyboard and crying 10 minutes later in defeat.
Stupid programming...If we were running BASIC on TDA, I could fix it...

So...I worked around the code and copied all the Old Toonami files to their own folder to work with the existing script.
If anyone encounters any missing file errors, please e-mail me and I'll see what I can do.

Warning... Incoming Dirty Hack Posted Saturday, June 22, 2002, 7:28PM by Zogg
"Ok... here's the deal. I've just retro-fitted the site with what I call ""A really dirty hack"". Tyler and I are trying to find ways to save bandwidth, and one of them is to force users to download our files instead of just watching them over and over again and redownloading each time. So... all the files have been converted to a system wherein the server pretty much forces your browser to bypass the plugin and download the file straight. It works pretty well in my tests, the only downside being that resuming (ie, getright/gozilla) doesn't work. We'll give this a shot for a few days and see what happens. If you experience problems with the new system (ie, it doesn't work; not that you don't like it) then be sure to send me an email. Let's see what happens!
PS: Tyler doesn't know I've done this, and I won't be home when he gets back. So, err, uhh, SURPRISE!
Update from Tyler 5 minutes later: ...I work in a hi-tech computer store with 30 computers all hooked up to the internet over a T1 connection. I SEE ALL!
Update from Zogg 1.75 hours later: Resuming problem is fixed thanks to code from Ronny Haryanto. That guy rules.
Update from Tyler 15 minutes later:Also, thanks to reluctant pepito lackie Alshoff for finding the original code.

I need to automate this... Posted Saturday, June 22, 2002, 5:50PM by Zogg
"For those of you following the status of my summer camp... the staff is back up there! Week 4 of camp (this week) was canceled for kids, but all of the counselors will be working hard on various grounds maintenance stuff to be sure the camp is ready for the next slew of kids. The fire has backed off, and we're hoping and praying that week 5 will be a go. Anyway... back to the site stuff:
I just did 2 months worth of financial records. May and June reports are now available. I've also updated the donate-o-meter to reflect all donations up until this point (sorry that took so long). This afternoon's plans involved me working on methods to reduce bandwidth usage without closing any sections. Hooray! (Let's hope it works.)

Nothing to see here... he's got a canoe. Posted Thursday, June 20, 2002, 1:35AM by Zogg
"Well.... uhh... things are interesting. The camp I'm working at (here) has been evacuated due to the Hayman fire ravaging the Colorado Rockies. As such, I'm home off and on for a few days while we sort out future weeks of camp. (Which, by the way, I'm looking forward to. Camp rules.) Anyway, here's a quick status update on site related stuff.
-I have about $112 of donations sitting in my inbox. I'll try and get to those tomorrow if I have time.
-I haven't forgotten about last month's financial report. I'll try to do that as well.
-Tyler is doing an awesome job managing the site in my absence. Great job, Tyler! (He hasn't heard from me in weeks.)

Update from Tyler 1 hour later: [snif] I miss Zogg. All this site administration stuff is scary.

"I've moved the openings from the four confirmed shows from Almost Toonami to their own sections:
Classic Zoids
G Gundam
Transformers Armada

Three new files come with that:
The Second G Gundam Intro thanks to Mysterio III, the US Classic Zoids Intro and the Original He-Man Intro

Download, be merry, but if you think that you might watch ANY file more than once, PLEASE download it to your HD. Repeat viewings are killing us.

Play. Posted Monday, June 17, 2002, 6:50PM by TylerL
"Most files back online.
The Fan Creations and Almost Toonami sections (biggest files, most bandwidth used) are still offline for the time being.

Three new files since last week:
DB/Z Super Saturdays Promo
New PPG Promo
DBZ Frieza Saga Promo

Go get them.

I'll make sections for all the confirmed, upcoming shows tomorrow or something.

Global Domination Posted Saturday, June 15, 2002, 1:27AM by TylerL
"It looks like Toonami is making its way to Japan!
...and they're not playing any Anime. I kinda saw that coming :)

What I'd LOVE to do is make a Global Toonami section, a lot like that Toonami UK Feature we have online, only much much larger.

So...I'm looking for anyone in the UK, Latin America (Talisman counts), Japan or anywhere else that Toonami airs that has video capture capabilities.
If anyone fits this description, and could send me promos and intros over the internet please get in contact with me.

"How many of you have heard of the Toonami Mobile Game Unit?
[crickets chirp]
...and how many of you have BEEN to the Toonami Mobile Game Unit?
[complete silence]
Now's your chance to learn about it.
TDA fan MDawg visited it a few weeks back in Virginia, wrote up a little report and took pictures n' stuff for us!
Take a look at the TMGU Feature in the Features section!

I am superior. Posted Wednesday, June 12, 2002, 12:21AM by Pepito
"Does every carbon-based biped out there know what time it is? That?s right, it?s time for you to GET BACK TO WORK! That, and its time for me to post up the next edition of my column. So, stop what you?re doing (not you, Jon, you just keep on whittling out those gnomes) and use your already pitiful hand-eye coordination to navigate yourself to my column in the Rants section. Then, pledge yourself to my cause and be prepared to be forcefully pushed beyond your threshold of pain.

...and if you're good little slaves for my empire, I might even consider putting together ANOTHER one of my glorious columns together to help you through this pitiful little ""bandwidth drought"".

TDA: More than just pretty moving pictures. Posted Tuesday, June 11, 2002, 7:26PM by TylerL
"I just added Mailbag #4 to the bottom of the Rants section! Go take a look! Laugh your toenails off!
Also, Pepito sent me his latest column. It'll go online tomorrow once I add the correct formatting. It's hard to extract text out of a DV data feed.

Hey there, TDA faithful..." Posted Monday, June 10, 2002, 12:00AM by TylerL
"I have some bad news.
For no reason Zogg or I could figure out, our daily visits went up 50% since the beginning of June. So...instead of ~2,000 visitors a day, we get 3,000.
...and instead of ~12GB per day, we're now using 20GB of bandwidth a day.
We are given 400GB of bandwidth per month by RackShack.
If we kept going on our current course, we'd use up our alloted bandwidth in 10 more days. If we went over our bandwidth allotment, RackShack(our server provider) would fine us for every GB we go over.
We don't have any money, and we don't know how much extra we'd be charged.
So, Zogg and I have done something we hoped we would never have to do.
As of Midnight on June 10th, all downloads are disabled until further notice.
The show downloads, the large feature downloads, and, of course, Fan Creations are not available for the time being.
...but Tyler, when will teh files b back?
To be honest, I'm not quite sure. Probably no more than a week to 10 days.
I'm doing this now instead of the end of the month because I don't want to deprive any of you of of the G Gundam promos or any other new videos starting in a week or two. There shouldn't (hopefully) be much new in the world of Toonami for at least a week, so you probably won't miss any new promos.
The message board will still be online, as well as all the rants and the non-video parts of the Features section. I'll hopefully have a new Mailbag article this week and I think Pepito's almost done with his new column too, so there'll still be updates. It's not like TDA's completely going away.

Now, before you all form a lynch mob and knock down RackShack's door like you did to Fuitad last year, they have done NOTHING wrong. We are following the rules and limits set down by them. It's our fault we're so popular.
In fact, when we first purchased this server, we had 150GB of bandwidth per month. Shortly afterwards, all servers were raised to 300GB, and just a few months ago, it was raised again to 400GB.
Don't expect another raise. HOPE (like us), but don't expect OR DEMAND. Do NOT e-mail anyone at RackShack to complain! It can do nothing but hurt us.
TDA is NOT dying. We're just running at 5% power to save ourselves from dying.
Please bear with us. We're just as unhappy as you are.

I can't think up a good subject line. I'm scared. Posted Sunday, June 9, 2002, 12:53AM by TylerL
"I added the longer ""Three Hours"" Toonami promo. I'll get that new Super Saturdays one when I find it.

I also added a higher quality copy of the Mobile Suit Gundam Toonami intro. It seems like that's the one being used for Adult Swim too.

Mobile Suit Gundam re-premieres at 12:30am eastern tonight on Adult Swim Action. See the original series in a complete run.

Send me your questions so that I may laugh at them. Posted Saturday, June 8, 2002, 2:51AM by Pepito
"It's almost time for another one of my columns, but I want more questions from you, the future nameless Quarry Drone of my empire.
What I would like to see more often than the ""I AM COOL JOIN ME"" letters are ones with genuine Toonami/Anime questions. I'm more than just a corrupt communist dictator bent on ruling the world, y'know.
E-Mail me and I'll consider posting your scribble as well as my answer in my next column due in a week or so.

Licensing issues suck. Posted Tuesday, June 4, 2002, 11:50AM by TylerL
"I added the regular US intro to Hamtaro to the ever-growing Hamtaro section.
Also, Apple released the QuickTime 6 Public Preview today which promises better performance, improved streaming, and full ISO-Compliant MPEG-4 support.
MPEG-4's some nifty stuff. It's supposed to become the utopian video format for internet and other portable distribution. It's partially used as the video codec for DivX 5, and provides excellent video quality at much, much lower filesizes than MPEG-1 and it great for streaming.
Here at TDA, we'll most likely stick with Sorenson 3 for the time being because it gives us much more flexibility with the datarate, can be pushed to do a lot more, and still gives better results.
For the early adopters out there, download the Public Preview and tell us how it works with our existing content. Smoother video on low-end computers? Any problems? The full version of QuickTime 6 should be out in the next few months.
I made an MPEG-4 version of the 2002 Toonami Intro for all those who want to try it out. Just right-click (control-click on the Mac) on the image to the right to download it.
Update by Tyler the next day: Hmm...It seems that the Public Preview runs a lot slower than the QuickTime 5 final. I'd wait until the final release before anyone installs QuickTime 6 on slower computers.

Uh huh...What's goin' on here? Posted Monday, June 3, 2002, 4:35PM by TylerL
Added the Hamtaro Toonami intro to the Hamtaro section.
It's a must-download just for TOM's reaction.
Update by Tyler 1.5 hours later: I also added the new Toonami PPG opening. Another hilarious intro.

Well...maybe not. Posted Sunday, June 2, 2002, 9:46PM by TylerL
I got the longer Hamtaro promo. You go find it. You're big boys n' girls.
...there's a new DBZ promo somewhere. I'll get it sometime.

...I'm convinced. The CN people hate me. Posted Saturday, June 1, 2002, 1:39AM by TylerL
There's a longer Hamtaro promo out there.
It caught me by surprise. My VCR WAS supposed to be taping Cartoon Network at the time, but NOOOO...I forgot to start it, so they decided to air a promo I wanted.
I only caught the tail end of it...and what a tail.
Click here to hear the strangest thing Peter Cullen will ever say.

I'll get the full promo when I can. (Monday?)
